Ethiscore Report: Buyer's guide to green energy suppliers
|
Green tariffs on the ROCs?
Signing up to a green energy tariff seems like a simple way to reduce your household's contribution to CO2 emissions. But scratch beneath the surface and a confusing minefield of information is revealed. Katy Brown investigates.
There was no obligation before 1st April
for energy suppliers to buy green
electricity, so customers signing up to a green tariff were increasing the demand for renewables.
Since April 1st 2002, suppliers have been required by the government to ensure that an increasing
proportion of the electricity they sell comes from renewable energy sources.
